Voice Quality Management

Monitoring voice quality nowadays become a necessity especially with the appearance of various voice quality issues such as (Packet Jitter, Packet delay and Packet Loss) which reduce voice quality and affect customer satisfaction. Without a tool that can monitor voice quality, it would have been so difficult for resellers to discover the cause for these low quality calls. With MarWatch enhanced visibility, VoIP service providers can identify and address in details network health issues and hence improve customer satisfaction.

Combining multiple voice quality statistics such as jitter, delay and codec, MarWatch compute single quality score known as Mean Opinion Score (MOS). It’s very useful measure for better notification triggering. One of the main advantages using the MOS score is that even if each quality statistics (for jitter, delay, etc) is within tolerance, the combination of the jitter, delay and loss can mean it is a poor quality call.

Packet Jitter

It is the variation in the delay of received packets. At the sender, they are sent evenly spaced intervals, but due to traffic overcrowding they come at unequal intervals.

Packet Delay

Packet delay is the amount of time it takes for a packet to travel from end to end. If the delay is short VoIP quality is not affected. However, VoIP quality can be greatly affected when some packets arrive much later than the rest.

Packet Loss

Packet loss occurred when there is a failure of one or more transmitted packets to arrive at their destinations. This can cause a remarkable effect in digital communications.
